Structure of a Firearms Application

SUGGESTED STRUCTURE OF FIREARMS LICENCE APPLICATION

  1. State full name and ID
  2. Confirm compliance with competency requirements
  3. Details of applicant
    1. Where born
    2. Schooling
    3. Education
    4. Work/Career
  4. Shooting Career
    1. Date when started shooting
    2. Where you started shooting (which club/venue/event)
    3. Give a brief description of how you enjoy Clay Target Shooting
    4. Give details of how you enjoy your friends and the shooting fraternity
    5. State any achievements, medals, etc
    6. State any involvement with shooting administration
  5. List the firearms for which you already have licences.  State the purpose for each firearm and explain why they are all different.
  6. Confirm that you have the required safe.
  7. Provided that you comply, confirm your medical history and that you comply with the requirements of the Firearms Control Act.
  8. Provided that you comply, confirm that you have not lost any firearms or had any firearms confiscated.
  9. Provided that you comply, confirm that you comply with the requirements of the FCA in terms of no criminal convictions.
  10. Confirm, if applicable, that your spouse is in agreement with your application.
  11. Provide a motivation for the firearm.  Confirm why you need the firearm and why the firearm’s purpose cannot be satisfied by your existing firearms.  Confirm any future participation in any events or teams where applicable.  Do not make the motivation too lengthy – a few paragraphs per firearm is sufficient.  Be brief and to the point.
  12. Finally state that you comply with all the requirements of the FCA.
  13. Please note that at all times the onus is on you to ensure that you comply with all the requirements of the Firearms Control Act and that your statements must be truthful, factual and honest.
